SUCCESS STORY: Sony 40'' KDLV40XBR1 Widescreen LCD TV

By Staff -- TWICE, 7/17/2006

Less than a year since the christening of the high-performance BRAVIA LCD TV series, Sony has risen to the top of the large-screen LCD market, and one model in particular — the 40W-inch KDL-V40XBR1 — stood as the single best-selling large-screen LCD in the industry over the last 12 months. The KDL-V40XBR1, which launched in September 2005 at a $3,500 suggested retail, helped set the stage for the BRAVIA sub-brand, accounting for 28.7 percent of market sales for LCD TVs measuring 36 inches and larger. All models in the same iteration of the XBR series as the KDL-V40XBR1 (forthcoming 2006 models are 1,080p capable) featured 1,366 by 768 pixel resolution, and were among the first Sony models to employ Sony's advanced Wide Color Gamut-Cold Cathode Florescent Light (WCG-CCFL) back-lighting system to produce purer white light for a wider and more accurate color range. The KDL-V40XBR1 also features Sony's Super Patterned Vertical Alignment technology for a wider viewing angle and faster response time. This is combined with Sony's WEGA Engine System to produce high contrast levels and enriched picture detail.
