CES 2009: Swann Unviels Security Products

Las Vegas — Home security manufacturer Swann Communications added two new consumer oriented security products to its lineup at International CES, here.

The $199 ADW-330 FamilyCam is a wireless camera system that includes a color monitor. The camera can send video from as far away as 165 feet from the monitor via an encrypted 2.4GHz signal. It features an automatic night vision function to switch to night vision when ambient lighting dims.

It will be sold in black and white.

The PenCam DVR is a portable video recorder embedded within a real pen. It features 2GB of internal memory and captures color AVI video files.

The pen can be unscrewed to reveal a USB connector. The PenCam can also record audio up to a distance of three feet via a built-in microphone and is powered by a lithium-ion battery with a 90-minute life.

It will retail for $119.

  It would be interesting to see if the Swann digital wireless camera can
  connect to a Windows PC and be recognized as a webcam. That would
  enable its use along with services like HomeCamera
  (www.homecamera.com). Today, most wireless cameras sold to
  consumers are absolute rubbish, with deplorable video. This sounds like
  the right product - it needs to be packaged with the right application and
