Dual Offers CD Receiver With TV Tuner

HEATHROW, FLA. — Dual Electronics Corp., the year-old company set on reviving the Dual brand in the U.S. market, will introduce at CES about 45 new 12-volt products including an in-dash CD receiver with a 2.5-inch TFT LCD monitor/TV.
According to Dual, users can actually watch DVD movies or play video games on the unit. It has multiple A/V inputs for a DVD player, game console or satellite radio, and it accepts CD-R and CD-RW discs. The unit, model XDV8125, has a built-in TV tuner with 20 station presets. It also comes with a motorized panel, built-in 4x55-watt power, two pairs of pre-amp outputs and three pairs of RCA outputs and remote.
It is expected to ship in the first quarter of 2004 at a suggested retail of $699.
It will be joined by a Dual CD receiver with a motorized front panel (with no LCD, only controls). When the panel opens, it reveals an 'oversized' dot matrix LCD. The model XD7500 comes with a remote. It is also expected to ship in the first quarter at $199, the company said, claiming that other products with similar features cost $279.
Short of a year on the market, Dual says the brand is in 4,000 retail points of sale, and climbing. The company attributes its success, in part, to a gap in the market between import/distributors and established brands. "We're a prime source manufacturer and we're combining that with U.S. expertise. We have the U.S. sales and marketing team driving the ideas back to our factory," said Matt Vinson, senior VP of product planning and procurement.
Dual, a division of Namsung America, says it is also pushing into home audio and video and expects to offer its first widescreen LCD monitors this year.
Robb Groner, senior product manager for Namsung America, and formerly of Jensen, said the company plans to offer 12-volt DVD and in-car navigation in the future.
Also new in mobile audio at CES are two marine CD receivers and a full line of car speakers. The company plans to show woofer boxes with special illumination technology. Dual is also adding a four-channel amplifier to its current line, called the XAF 680, with built in 60x4-watt power at $199.
