Success Story: Garmin Nuvi 200
By Staff -- TWICE, 8/18/2008
Garmin's Nuvi 200 was the top-selling personal navigation device (PND) by unit volume for the 12 months ending in May, NPD statistics show.
The Nuvi 200 was the first Garmin PND to break the $200 price barrier.
Retailers said the device became popular simply because it was the lowest-priced unit under the well- recognized Garmin brand. Some dealers said the Nuvi line itself has developed high brand recognition, with one retail buyer likening it to the Sony Trinitron in the 80s.
The Nuvi 200 features a 3.5-inch screen and a picture viewer, and preloaded maps of the lower 48 states, Hawaii and Puerto Rico. It doesn't announce street names for an upcoming turn.
