Best Buy Announces Remote Control Recall

By Staff -- TWICE, 3/12/2007

Best Buy, in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, announced a voluntary recall of about 10,000 remote controls sold with the Insignia 100W DVD compact shelf system.

The recall was announced because placing the batteries backward in the remote with the positive and negative sides improperly switched can result in overheating and present a burn hazard.

Best Buy said it had received one report of a remote control overheating, but no injuries had been reported.

The white remote control has model number NS-A1113 and "Insignia" printed on the front. They were manufactured in China and sold at Best Buy retail stores, and on www.bestbuy.com and www.bestbuybusiness.com, from May 2006 through January 2007 with the Insignia 100W DVD players.

The company said in a release that consumers should stop using the remote control immediately and contact Best Buy to receive a free replacement remote.
