By Steve Smith -- TWICE, 5/17/2004
MAPLEWOOD, N.J. — Neretin Associates, a retail research firm based here, is conducting research for an HDTV brand retail penetration report covering all formats and configurations.
The company is polling 121 brick-and-mortar and dot-com retailers who control the vast majority of HDTV sales in all formats (direct-view, rear-projection, front-projection, plasma, LCD and widescreen).
Of the 121 retailers pre-qualified: 20 are strictly Internet retailers, eight are home theater specialists and 81 are electronics and audio/video specialists, including all of the major national and regional chains. Mass merchandisers, including warehouse clubs, department stores, discount chains and service exchanges, are represented by 12 chains, company founder Aaron Neretin said.
Early results show the top ten HDTV brands, in descending order, as Sony, Panasonic, Samsung, Toshiba, Mitsubishi, Hitachi, RCA, JVC, Pioneer and Philips. Complete results and analyses for the syndicated study will be delivered to Neretin subscribers in June.
