3M, Skinit Team For PC, Portable Accessories Line

By Staff -- TWICE, 4/20/2009

3M's Optical Systems division and Skinit have teamed for a line of 3M-branded privacy, protection and personalization products for notebooks, phones and portable devices.

A joint Web site, www.3Mskins.com, launched launched April 1, offers five sizes of 3M widescreen notebook privacy filters ranging from 12.1 inches to 17 inches. Each purchase includes a free Skinit notebook personalization skin. Products for mobile phones and other handheld devices, including privacy, protection and personalization films, will join the notebook-filter line later this year, 3M said.

The 3M privacy filters darken laptop screens when viewed from the side while the user clearly sees what's on the screen.

“Working with Skinit enables us to introduce our display-grade quality privacy, protection and decorative films into the consumer and wireless communications markets with a message of personalization for entertainment and style to 3M's Specialty Display product line — a line that typically has focused on more traditional business traveler and industrial applications. Skinit already uses 3M products in its manufacturing process so offering high-quality 3M privacy filters alongside Skinit Skins was a natural choice,” said Sharon Middendorf, product marketing manager at 3M Optical.

The www.3mskins.com Web site also is hosting a weekly 3M product sweepstakes for a chance to win 3M MPro110 mini projectors and personalized skins. For more information on the sweepstakes visit www.3mskins.com/landing.php.

Visitors to the site can also join the “Wi-Fi No-Spy Zone” to receive announcements of future promotions.
