Wireworld CD Provides Objective Audio Cable Comparison

By Jeff Malester -- TWICE, 1/27/2003

Audio and video cable maker Wireworld Cable Technology has introduced what it calls "the world's first objective comparison of audio cables on a CD."

Called the Cable Comparator Disc, the company said at International CES earlier this month that the disc is an innovation that objectively demonstrates the sonic benefits of upgraded audio cables.

"As far as I know, this is the world's first demonstration of audio component quality on a CD," said David Salz, president of the Fort Lauderdale, Fla.-based company.

Wireworld, which is distributing the Comparator in combination with its product literature, said it has dedicated itself to producing cables that perform as flawlessly as a direct connection. To emphasize this effort, the Comparator has been produced specifically to showcase the company's new Series 5 cable line, which features a wide array of high-quality and high-technology components.

The CD offers numerous tracks of the same song. Most tracks were made by feeding the analog audio signal through a selection of interconnects. A number of the cables are Wireworld Series 5, and the others are well-known competitors. One track is a benchmarked direct connection.

The disc is intended to demonstrate that most cables cause substantial amounts of audible distortion, and that Wireworld Series 5 cables effectively minimize this distortion to provide greatly improved sound quality, Salz said.

While no cable can equal the fidelity of a direct connection, the company said, the Comparator proves that Series 5 cables "come amazingly close to this goal." Wireworld claims that the least expensive cable in the disc has objectivity higher than other cables selling for over 10 times the price.
