Mitsubishi Debuts 1,080p DLP At Ken Crane’s

By Alan Wolf -- TWICE, 6/30/2005

West Los Angeles — Mitsubishi's first 1,920 by 1,080 (1,080p) native-resolution rear projection DLP HDTVs will make their retail debut today when the company bows its new 52W-inch model at Ken Crane’s flagship store, here.

The occasion will be marked by a press conference to be attended by executives from Mitsubishi, Texas Instruments and Ken Crane’s, along with media and consumers. Hollywood studios DreamWorks, Fox and Miramax/Disney have also supplied 1,080p footage for the event, including snippets from “Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith,” “Kill Bill” and “Madagascar.”

The unit, Mitsubishi’s WD-52627, boasts over 2 million pixels and up-converts all signals to 1,080p resolution. The set carries a suggested retail of $3,699, although Ken Crane’s is promoting it for $3,498.

Mitsubishi will begin delivering the model to other select Southern California dealers today, and will begin shipping it nationally within the next several weeks. The unit will be followed this summer and fall by 62W-inch, 73W-inch and additional 52W-inch models, for a total of nine models in five series.
