Samsung Bows 14-Megapixel Camera Models

By Staff -- TWICE, 7/21/2008

Samsung pulled back the curtain on its second-half digital camera lineup last week, adding four models due in September.

The company will up the resolution of its cameras — debuting among the first 14-megapixel point-and-shoot cameras — as well as add 28mm wide-angle lenses to several models.

The 14-megapixel TL34HD sports a 28mm 3.6x optical zoom lens, 720p video capture and dual-image stabilization. It offers a 3-inch LCD with the second generation of the company's Smart Touch interface.

It will sell in all black or in silver with red trim for $329.

The 10-megapixel TL9 is a compact model with a 5x optical zoom lens, dual stabilization, 2.7-inch LCD and MP3/PMP capability. The camera will feature a new design, with two analog gages on the top of the camera to display remaining battery life and memory capacity.

The TL9 has face detection (up to nine faces) and a "smile shot" function that only records an image when the subject is smiling. The camera will also offer a blink-detection mode, which will prevent the camera from recording an image when a subject's eyes are closed. It will retail for $279.

The 13.6-megapixel SL310W, for $229, features a 28mm, 3.6x optical zoom with dual image stabilization, 11 scene modes, face detection, smile shot, blink detection and automatic red-eye fix.

The camera also includes a function description in the menu to explain various camera features as well as an in-camera help guide.

Finally, the 10-megapixel SL201 ($169) features a 3x optical LCD, a 2.7-inch LCD that adjusts brightness automatically based on external lighting, face detection and 11 scene modes. Additional features include in-camera help guide and function description, and a self-portrait mode that uses face detection to only capture an image when a subject's face is centered.
