Runco To Demo 3-Chip 1080p DPL Projectors

By Greg Tarr -- TWICE, 9/5/2007

DENVER — Now under the stewardship of Planar, Runco International will use CEDIA 2007 (booth 510) to present its line of Video Xtreme 1080p DLP projectors.

The line features Runco’s developments in three-chip projector engineering and THX’s video certification standards.

Video Xtreme models VX-22d ($44,995 suggested retail) and VX-44d ($79,995) are billed as the first 1080p HD video display products to achieve THX certification.

The THX program certifies that HD and standard-definition content is “presented with the correct color, luminance levels and video processing capabilities,” Runco said.

Both models use Runco’s three-chip DLP system, which optimizes color spectrum purity. Both models employ three 16:9 SuperOnyx DMDs combined with Runco’s Vivix II video processing.

These systems are also said to offer the industry’s best black level and contrast performance.

Each model is available with Runco’s optional CineWide and CineWide with AutoScope technology, which reproduces 2.35:1 CinemaScope movies accurately and with full vertical screen image height, eliminating black bars.

The VX-22d and VX-44d utilize the same footprint and versatile feature set as the 720p predecessors — the VX-2 and VX-40. CinOptx lenses will be available to provide a range of different throw distances.

Exclusive Runco features such as AxiShift technology with a motorized horizontal and vertical lens-shift system are available for difficult placement situations.

All Video Xtreme projectors are paired with a re-engineered DHD controller for compatibility with a broad range of source components.

The VX-22d and DHD connect via a DVI-D Dual Link cable for a pure digital signal path from input to output. The widely heralded DHD has been such a success that Runco focused the engineering changes only to those necessary for optimal 1080p performance with the new projectors.
