Best Buy Adds Westinghouse LCD TV

By Greg Tarr -- TWICE, 7/26/2004

CITY OF INDUSTRY, Calif. — Westinghouse Digital, a new LCD TV vendor looking to break into the U.S. market, announced that consumer electronics retail-giant Best Buy is now selling its line of 27-inch and 30-inch LCD TVs.

According to press statement announcing the move, Westinghouse Digital’s LCD TVs are available at Best Buy at “industry-leading low prices.”

“Our central strategy is to work closely with retailers to bring steady and substantial price reductions quickly to market, and the addition of Best Buy to our distribution channel strengthens our position as the mainstreaming leader,” said Douglas Woo, Westinghouse Digital president.

Westinghouse Digital reduced its suggested retail price for the 30W-inch model W33001 to $2,199 and for the 27W-inch model W32701 to $1,699.

“Price compression on all sizes of LCD TVs has been dramatic, and Westinghouse Digital is at the forefront of offering mainstream consumers affordable digital entertainment,” Woo said.

“Our central strategy is to work closely with retailers to bring steady and substantial reductions in production costs quickly and efficiently to the market,” he continued. “The addition of Best Buy to our distribution channel strengthens our position as the mainstreaming leader, with Westinghouse LCD TVs available in more than 1,100 retail stores coast to coast at prices that are 30 percent lower than just seven months ago.”

Westinghouse LCD TVs offer 16-millisecond response time, which is said to be beneficial for reproducing fast-action sports, video games and movies.
