Kodak Adds Wi-Fi to New Printers

Cologne, Germany — Kodak will add Wi-Fi networking to its newest inkjet all-in-ones.
The company announced a pair of new printers on the eve of the Photokina tradeshow.
The new ESP 7 and ESP 9 printers will use the same $10 black- and $15 color-ink cartridges that Kodak has been promoting since it jumped back into the market last year.
Alongside integrated wireless and wired networking, both new printers will feature paper trays with built-in sensors to estimate the number of sheets remaining.
Included software will also support an “HD media” option for printing photos on new 4-inch by 7-inch paper. The new format allows consumers to print images recorded in 16:9 mode. The new paper initially will be sold directly through Kodak.com to test consumer acceptance, said Ruben Tellez, senior product manager.
The $199 ESP 7 sports a 3-inch color LCD, memory card slots and a duplexer. It prints a 4- by 6-inch photo in 28 seconds and prints text at 32 ppm in black and 30 ppm in color. It ships this month.
The ESP 9 adds a 10-inch touch-control panel interface and a fax. It will retail for $299 and will initially be sold online.
Kodak also said that it would distribute its all-in-ones through Staples.
