HP Intros Widescreen, WiFi Notebook

Palo Alto, Calif. - Hewlett-Packard today introduced a widescreen notebook computer that will sell under the Compaq Presario brand name.
The Presario X1000 PC notebook, which will ship May 21, is built around a 15.4-inch display and is designed to function as either a multimedia device or in a graphics intensive business environment. The X1000 series can be configured in a variety of ways with four Intel Centrino Pentium M processors available with speeds of 1.3GHz, 1.4 GHz, 1.5 GHz, and 1.6 GHz.
Base features include either an ATI Mobility Radeon 9200 graphics card with 64MB of video memory or the Radeon 7500 with 32MB of memory, JBL Pro speakers, three USB 2.0 ports and a 1394 port. HP will release a follow up version this summer that incorporates a DVD+RW drive. An integrated 802.11b card is included in the 6.5-pound notebook.
The notebook can be configured with 40GB, 60GB or an 80GB hard drive and up to 2GB of DDR memory.
Pricing starts at $1,399, although a $100 rebate is now being offered.
