Sonance Rolls Rocks

San Clemente, Calif.— Sonance plans April shipments of new SoundHenge III rock-style speaker enclosures for its Mariner outdoor speakers. The new enclosures cost half as much as their predecessors at a suggested $200 each and weigh half as much at 9 pounds. They're as durable as the previous models and sound as good but add more aesthetic grilles and an easier mounting system, the company said. The company also began shipping its first in-ceiling powered sub along with a new in-wall powered sub in its Virtuoso series. The round in-ceiling and rectangular in-wall models feature 8-inch long-throw sub and outboard 150-watt amp. They retail for a suggested $799. A passive version of the in-wall model retails for a suggested $349.

Axyys Of E-Tail

Los Angeles — On-line marketer Axyys Corp. has begun offering a small remote-controlled sub/sat system intended to amplify music from portable audio devices. The $319 Octave system features flat, bipolar satellites running from 195Hz+ and a subwoofer operating from 55-205Hz. The curvaceous satellites are 11.5-inches-high, 5-inches-wide, and 1.2- to 2-inches-deep. The company, which sells a handful of other electronics products, is at www.axyyscorporation.com.

Dahlquist Does Surround

Mississauga, Ontario— Jonic International plans Q1 availability of the compact Dahlquist-brand Orbit 5.1 home theater speaker system, a new LCD speaker, and new finishes for its QX series. The Orbit retails for a suggested $650 and features two satellite pairs, a dedicated center channel, and a 100-watt digitally amplified 12-inch sub. The new LCR is the QX7 bookshelf model at $300 each. The new finishes are white and high-gloss black. The QX series ranges in price from $125 to $700 each.

Myryad Audio Offerings

Williston, VT. — Artech Electronics unveiled the Z series of Myryad-brand components from the U.K. New models include two-channel separates as well as a DVD/CD player. The $1,095-suggested Z120 DVD player, Myryad's second DVD player, adds MP3-CD playback. The $849 Z110 CD player features 24-bit 96kHz DACs. The $795 Z130 FM tuner is equipped with RDS (Radio Data System) and built-in alarm clock enabling people to wake up to FM or CD. The $895 2x50-watt Z140 integrated amp features MM phono preamp, tape-monitor loop, and headphone jack. The $695 Z160 2x50-watt amp can be added to the integrated amp to create a biamplified system. They shipped in February. Myryad is considering such Z series additions as a preamp/processor, multi-channel amplifier, and receiver.

Haier's Patriotic MP3

New York — Haier's HMP-M640 headphone MP3 player is available in red, white or blue with 64MB embedded memory and MMC slot to expand memory to 128MB. At a suggested $200, it features built-in voice recorder, flip-top panel to protect the LCD screen, and USB. It's compatible with Windows 98, ME and 200 OSs.
