iRiver Enters HDD Music-Portable Market

By Joseph Palenchar -- TWICE, 10/15/2003

San Jose - Portable audio maker iRiver launched its first hard-disk-drive (HDD) music portable, a $399-suggested 20GB model that incorporates MP3 encoder, FM tuner, and digital
input/output.

The iHP-120 is available at retail and through selected retailers and www.iriveramerica.com.

The company, which markets MP3-CD portables and flash-memory portables, contends the life of the unit's internal rechargeable battery is twice that of competing models, or 16 hours.

The device's built-in MP3 encoder can be used to rip music directly from digital sources such as CD players through the portable's digital optical input and an analog input. The MP3 encoder is also used to record voice and FM-tuner programs. For playback, however, the device supports multiple formats: MP3, WMA, WAV, OGG and ASF. It works with PC or Mac computers.

The iHP-120 is bundled with earphones, remote control with backlit LCD, carrying case, AC adapter, USB 2.0 cable, line in/out cable, microphone and iRiver Music Manager CD software.
