Maxell Debuts DVD-R Inkjet Printable White Discs

Fair Lawn, N.J. — New from Maxell is DVD-R inkjet-printable white media that features print-to-center capability and consumer-friendly packaging. The product is said to offer consumers and end-users 10 percent more usable printing surface on the disc, which, in turn, means a richer, more robust and finished presentation.
“With disc-enabled inkjet printers being priced at retail-friendly levels, we expect printable media to contribute 12 percent to 15 percent of total DVD media sales in 2005,” said Peter Brinkman, VP/marketing. “What's even more impressive is that we expect this figure from a zero base line, so the sales growth is going to be explosive.”
Emphasizing a “superior” printable surface for a product ideal for both personal consumer applications and business needs, Maxell said its DVD-R printable white media has a capacity of 4.7GB, or up to 120 minutes of recording time, and features write speed of up to 8x.
The product's consumer-friendly packaging is expected to spearhead a new retail marketing initiative for the category.
Availability is scheduled for March, and suggested retail pricing has not been set.
