Sony Adds Digital Frames, High-End Printer

NEW YORK — Sony will ship two new digital photo frames to dealers this holiday, alongside a new mini photo kiosk in its SnapLab line.
The models were announced at the PhotoPlus Expo show, here, last week.
The models will include Sony's first 10-inch digital frame, the DPF-D100, and the 8-inch D80. Both feature 800 by 600 displays with a 4:3 aspect ratio, 200MB of internal memory and card slots for the popular flash-memory formats.
In addition to JPEG images, the frames can display select RAW file formats (SRF, SR2, ARW).
The frames include an auto orientation sensor to adjust images when the frame is rotated, a clock and calendar function, an auto power on/off mode and a remote control.
The D80, for $180, is shipping this month. The $280 D100 ships next month.
Sony also added a new professional printer to its SnapLab line. The UPC-R20L can serve as a portable printer for professional photographers or an over-the-counter kiosk for retail establishments.
It features built-in Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and Ethernet networking. It uses Silex Virtual Link technology for transferring image data wirelessly from cameras to printer.
The new SnapLab dye sub printer supports several sizes, including 3.5-inch by 5-inch, 4- by 6-inch, 5- by 7-inch and 6- by 8-inch in glossy or ProMatte finishes. The printer can apply either finish using the same media roll, Sony said.
It can crank out a 3.5- by 5-inch or a 4- by 6-inch print in eight seconds, a 5- by 7-inch in 13 seconds and a 6- by 8-inch in 15 seconds.
The R20L is shipping now for a list price of $2,995.
