Maxell Adds Start Kit To Rechargeable Line

FAIR LAWN, N.J. -A new starter kit from Maxell Corp. of America has been added to the company's lineup of rechargeable nickel-metal hydride batteries.
The kit, called P2000, sells at a suggested $19.99 retail and provides two AA and two AAA batteries along with a charger unit. It comes with a retractable plug for ease of storage and travel.
Maxell said it has doubled factory orders for rechargeable Ni-MH types, which it said provide 200 percent more power than standard nickel-cadmium rechargeable types and will significantly outperform alkaline batteries. Ni-MH batteries can be charged up to 1,000 times, said Maxell.
The packaging for Maxell's new Ni-MH batteries features icons showing consumers which high-tech devices the batteries are intended to power. The icons also permit retailers to merchandise the batteries alongside digital cameras and personal digital assistants, as well as in the regular battery department-for a dual merchandising punch.
Ni-MH batteries are ideal for digital cameras, PDAs, portable CD and MiniDisc players and other high-drain CE hardware, the company said.
