Mounts Go Green

By John Laposky -- TWICE, 1/8/2009

At least two mount makers are offering environmentally friendlier product fare at this year's show.

AVF will show a new range of eco-friendly TV wall mounts under its Eco-mount label. Eco-mount is a collection of flat-panel TV wall mounts designed and manufactured with 50 percent smaller packaging sizes.

The company pointed out that it uses an efficient manufacturing process that utilizes common parts and less raw materials. Environmentally sensitive packaging is used for all products in the range and smaller packaging sizes result in 50 percent less materials, 50 percent less transportation and consequently 50 percent less CO2 emissions, according to the company.

David Gallimore, CEO, said: "AVF have always designed and manufactured products with both retailer and consumer in mind. However, after AVF were awarded carbon neutral status earlier this year our innovations team have made a concerted effort to minimize the impact the products in the new range have on the environment. The result is a fantastic range of wall mounts with real environmental credentials that also benefits retailers and customers alike.

Omnimount will offer the first look at it previously announced OmniLite environmentally conscious audio/video mounting line.

Three premium flat-panel mounts, the OL50FT, OL125FT and OL200FT, were designed by OmniMount's in-house design team to reduce raw material use by 32 percent while increasing each mount's overall weight capacity by 56 percent, in comparison with current competitive models, the company said. The mounts offer fixed and tilt functionality.

In addition the OmniLite Series greatly reduces waste with condensed packaging and streamlined hardware kits. The series will have 100 percent recyclable internal packaging with no plastic bags, post-consumer recyclable outer-box material and non-petroleum-based ink for all package printing. Manuals and installation templates for each product will be printed on the inside of the box, eliminating the need for unnecessary paper.
