Duracell Teams With VH1 In Music Promotion

Staff -- TWICE, 11/6/2000

BETHEL, CONN. -Duracell is partnering with VH1's first-ever "My VH1 Music Awards" in a promotion that will offer consumers the opportunity to win a grand prize of two VIP tickets to their choice of four popular music concerts nationwide.

Grand-prize winners also receive first-class airfare, hotel rooms and $5,000 spending money. Concerts are selected from the nominees of the music awards.

First-prize winners will receive a CD from a music-awards nominee, and while supplies last, any purchaser of two saver packs or three regular packs of Duracell Ultra or Duracell alkaline batteries will receive a free CD case valued at $12.95 at the point of purchase.

The Duracell/VH1 partnership includes a fully integrated and account-specific promotion that surrounds consumers with powerful visual imagery. Dedicated Duracell Ultra displays will be found at retail, highlighting the awards show and housing the free CD carrying cases.

In addition, the promotion will be supported by eye-catching point-of-purchase materials and sweepstakes promo spots that will drive consumers to vote for their favorite artists by logging onto VH1.com or by mailing a paper ballot. Music fans will build the awards show from the ground up on the website.

Preliminary voting on VH1.com for nominees and categories ran until Oct. 26, when consumers began the final voting, choosing from 27 user-suggested categories. Voting will continue until the awards are presented live during "My VH1 Music Awards" at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles on Nov. 30.

Two grand-prize winners will be selected next January by a third-party judging panel.
