VenMill Offers Optical Disc Repair/Maintenance Unit

Las Vegas — Heralding a new evolution in disc repair, VenMill Industries plans to offer its OptoClear Skip-Away, a consumer CD/DVD/game disc buffing system designed for home applications of optical disc repair and maintenance. The unit has a self-contained changeable cartridge for conditioning fluid and buffing pads.
The company, based in Webster, Mass., estimates the Skip-Away can handle 50 repairs and 500 cleanings. It comes complete with slide loader and front LCD display counter and indicator lights. Six colors will be available when the unit is shipped late third quarter or early fourth.
According to the company, the device can “renew” scratches on optical discs without removing material from the disc, so it is possible to use it repeatedly without harm. The approach involves heat and pressure, which softens the protective plastic layer, while reflow restores optical clarity.
Suggested retail for Skip-Away is $129.99. A cartridge for 50 repairs and 500 cleanings is $19.99, and pads are $19.99 for 500 repairs and 5,000 cleanings.
