New York — Sony's RM-AX1400 remote control, made available in the second quarter for a $129 suggested retail, comes with the company's PC software meant to simplify the operation of multiple component home entertainment systems. The remote control is designed for home A/V systems because it consolidates multiple remote controls into one.
It features an XPRESS Function for executing a series of commands, enabling users to operate several A/V components by pressing a single key, as well as a Sync-Up key that synchronizes operational status for the remote and alternate components. The RM-AX1400 can control up to eight components.
A fully illuminated keypad allows users to see buttons clearly even when operating the remote in total darkness, and a bright, easily readable organic Electroluminescent display with a wide viewing angle helps guide the operation of an entire system, according to Sony. It has an operating distance of approximately 32.8 feet and a five-month battery life.
At the lower pricing end of the Sony remotes is the RM-VL600, with a $24 suggested retail. Like the RM-AX1400, it has an operating range of about 32.8 feet, but its battery life is approximately one year.
It can control up to eight A/V components and features one-touch system control with 12 macro functions for synchronizing operational status on the remote and alternate components. It also offers a learning function for programming other remotes, and the preprogrammed codes are compatible with most brands, according to Sony.
