Samsung Digicams: Better Movies On Bigger Screens

New York — Samsung's effort to capture market share in the digital still camera market will revolve around improved video recording and bigger LCD screens with all of its new models sporting a 2.5-inch screen.
All the Samsung models offer PictBridge compatibility, 32MB of internal memory with SD card slots. All of Samsung's introductions record MPEG-4 video at VGA resolution at 30 frames per second. They can optically zoom while recording video and offer a built-in electronic movie stabilizer to reduce camera shake.
The cameras also offer a continuous video recording feature which allows users to pause and resume video recording at any time or merge multiple video files into one single file. Users can also save a selected part of a movie clip into a new file during playback and/or capture a still image during video playback.
Pricing and availability were not released.
The 8-megapixel Digimax V800 features a 3x Schneider Kreuznach optical zoom lens, manual controls, 11 scene modes and auto macro focusing to 4cm.
The 5-megapixel A50 offers a 3x optical zoom SHD lens, 10 scene modes, special-effects mode, continuous shooting, in-camera image editing and automatic macro for focusing to 5cm.
Samsung will also introduce a wide-angle variation on the A50 — the A55W, which features a 4.8x optical zoom wide-angle lens for 28mm to 135mm (35mm equivalent) focusing. The A55W shares the features of the A50 but with an improved macro focus at 2cm.
Finally, the company announced the 5-megapixel L50, sporting a 3x optical zoom lens, color effects mode, 11 scene modes and in-camera editing.
