GoVideo Ships Wireless DVD Player

By Greg Tarr -- TWICE, 3/29/2005

Scottsdale, Ariz. — GoVideo is now shipping a next-generation combination Wireless Media Receiver/DVD player, which is designed to access RealNetworks’ Rhapsody online music service.

The D2740, which carries a $199.99 suggested retail, is designed to relay music, movies and pictures stored on a PC in the home to a TV or home theater system. The unit includes an onboard wireless 802.11g network system and wired Ethernet port for simplified connection to a home network.

Like earlier GoVideo Wireless Media Receiver DVD players, the D2740 will enable users to relay music, movies and photo files stored on their PCs’s to a TV or home theater system. The new unit will also access RealNetwork’s online music library service called Rhapsody, which allows users to personalize song lists and browse files by artist, album and song title. The service currently offers over 80,000 albums, in addition to custom radio stations created using Rhapsody.

GoVideo optimized its StreamLink Technology for UPnP-certified music services like Rhapsody and others, through a partnership with Digital 5, Inc.

The new D2740 is ready to use right out of the box, with music from up-and-coming independent artists and sample JPEG files featured on the included installation CD.

Purchasers of the D2740 will receive a free 30-day Rhapsody trial offer. Thereafter, the service carries a $9.95 monthly fee for streaming music, and an addition 79 cents per song for downloaded tracks.
