Success Story: Sony DCR-DVD105 Camcorder

By Staff -- TWICE, 7/16/2007

Sony's Handycam DCR-DVD105 anchored the firm's 2006 DVD camcorder lineup as its entry-level offering when it was introduced at International CES that year. At a suggested $500, the camcorder was the successor to the DVD92, another strong seller for the company. It incorporated a new 3D menu system that Sony rolled into many of its 2006 Handycams. The DVD105 featured a 2.5-inch SwivelScreen LCD, color view finder and a Carl Zeiss lens. It accepted both –R/RW and +R/RW media and could record up to one hour of video in LP mode. It boasted a 680K CCD imager and could snap VGA stills to Memory Stick Duo memory cards. The camcorder incorporated Sony's SteadyShot stabilization system, an InfoLithium battery with the "AccuPower" meter to display remaining battery life on the LCD, and a manual focus ring.
