Vudu Adds Control Code Partners

By Greg Tarr -- TWICE, 3/13/2008

Orlando, Fla. — Internet distributed video service provider Vudu said home control and automation firms Control4, Crestron, Logitech, NetStreams, Philips, Universal Electronics and Universal Remote Control have agreed to integrate key products with Vudu’s HD-capable set-top boxes and other devices.

The announcement, which was made at this week’s EHX Expo, was said to involve home controllers and channel IR codes for Vudu’s new XL and original set-top boxes. Control codes will be made available in programming tools and databases for Logitech Harmony Advanced universal remotes, Prestigo and Pronto lines from Philips, Nevo Controllers from Universal Electronics and Universal Remote Control’s Custom Professional products.

The partners were said to be enabling “a wide range of add-on capabilities — from integration with leading remote control units to multiroom viewing systems.”

The announcement was made as Vudu began shipping its Vudu XL ($999 suggested retail) high-end movie and video entertainment box, exclusively to authorized residential dealers.

Vudu XL enables more than 5,000 standard-definition movies, 1,000 TV episodes and more than 100 high-definition movies from all the major studios and 22 independent distributors. Movies are available to rent or purchase.
