Motorola Adds To Cordless Lineup

By Greg Scoblete -- TWICE, 9/27/2004

Motorola added two new 5.8GHz cordless phone families to its lineup last week.

The models include the digital MD700 expandable family and the analog MA500, which will join the company's existing cordless models in October.

The MD700 system is expandable to eight handsets and features polyphonic ringtones, enhanced lighting effects and frequency-hopping spread spectrum (FHSS) technology.

The 700 series will consist of two models and an expansion handset. The MD751, shipping this month for a suggested $89.99, features caller ID with visual call waiting, 24 selectable polyphonic ringtones, handset-to-handset intercom and handset speakerphone.

Users can customize ringtones for stored caller ID data to differentiate incoming calls by ringtone. It also features 50 phonebook memory locations.

The step-up MD761 will ship in October for a suggested $99.99 and adds an integrated digital answering machine with voice-mail forwarding and voice-memo recording. The base station features battery backup with four AAA batteries (sold separately) and is wall-mountable.

The MD71 accessory handset will ship this month for a suggested $59.99. It offers a four-line backlit display and speakerphone.

The MA500 series of 5.8GHz analog phones will also include two models, the MA550 and MA560.

They both offer six hours of battery life with six days of standby time, three ringtones, a three-line back-lit LCD and back-lit keypad, visual call indicator, 10-speed dial memory locations and are wall mountable.

The MA550 features caller ID with visual call waiting, handset paging from the base station, line-in-use indicator and a call-progress timer. The handset works with an included belt clip and is also headset-capable. It is shipping now for a suggested $49.99.

The step-up MA560 adds an integrated digital answering machine with 15 minutes of message storage and a visual message indicator for a suggested $69.99.

It also features handset message access and caller ID with visual call waiting. It is shipping this month.
