GN Netcon Wireless Headsets Adapt To Traditional Telephony

By Penny Gill -- TWICE, 1/5/2006

Wireless headsets are most often associated with cellphones, but at least one manufacturer sees an emerging market for wireless headsets for use with traditional and IP telephony.

“We see more and more user demand for personal communications tools,” said Rob Peterson, product marketing manager for GN Netcom. “Nearly every person in America today has a cellphone, and a greater number are using Bluetooth headsets for greater functionality in their communications. Now, people want that same level of convenience and ease of communication in their office space — especially individuals who spend two or more hours a day on the phone and understand the comfort of wireless headsets.”

GN Netcom is addressing that market with the new GN 9300 series, launched at International CES for mid-January availability. The GN 9350 offers full convergence between traditional office telephony and computer-based IP telephony, automatically switching between phones when a call is received. It incorporates DSP technology, offers true wideband audio performance and features a noise-canceling microphone. LCD display controls are designed for ease of use, and the headset offers a range of up to 350 feet.

Also available from the Nashua, N.H.-based company are the GN 9330, designed to work with traditional office phones, and the GN 9330 USB, for use with IP telephony such as IP soft phones.

Both offer plug-and-play installation, as well as two different wearing styles to suit all users. They both incorporate noise-canceling microphone technology, digital security encryption and have a range of 150 feet. Suggested retails were not available at press time.
