Dual GPS Aids Walkers

HEATHROW, Fla. — A second-generation portable GPS device offered by Dual is slimmer and adds updated graphics compared with its predecessor, and continues to offer audio and video playback as well as a pedestrian mode.
The NavAtlas XNAV3550 replaces the company's first model, introduced a year ago. The new model, currently shipping, is smaller and features 3.5-inch screen and almost 2 million points of interest at a suggested $499. It offers U.S. maps preloaded on a 1GB SD card and uses map software by Navigon, a leading GPS software company in Germany. The unit also plays back MP3, AVI and JPEG files, Dual said.
In pedestrian mode, the XNAV3550 allows users to walk city streets as a pedestrian. As a result, one-way streets and streets that don't allow traffic are included in route calculations, while parkways and highways are excluded.
