Wiz Opens Its First Clearance Center In N.J.

By Alan Wolf -- TWICE, 4/29/2002

New York metro area CE chain The Wiz has opened its first clearance center.

The outlet, which was converted from a standard Wiz storefront, is located near a recently opened Best Buy mega-store, here. The Best Buy unit occupies the former flagship store and warehouse complex of Tops Appliance City, which went belly up in 2000.

According to a Wiz spokeswoman, the clearance center was opened in order to sell all of the chain's clearance merchandise through one location rather than in each of its 43 stores. She said the center will "offer value to consumers" by providing discontinued, open box and display models of A/V and home office products at substantial discounts.

She added that the location was chosen for its proximity to a popular outlet shopping area.
