Target Adds LCDs To Assortment

Alan Wolf -- TWICE, 6/7/2004

While Target's flagship discount chain excels at cool CE executions (witness its Napster download music shops, exclusive Sony Liv collection, now in its second generation, and the Eddie Bauer line of Audiovox mobile DVD players), it has lagged fellow mass merchants in the high-tech TV department — until now.

The discounter has recently rolled out its first LCD TV assortment, consisting of 13-inch to 20-inch models by Samsung, Sharp, Magnavox and Go Video, at price points ranging from $400 to $1,100.CE merchandising VP Steve Eastman hints that there'll be more HDTV to come this fall as Target adds new SKUs to the expanded Electronics & Entertainment areas within its new P2004 stores. The chain rolled out 25 of the traffic-boosting prototypes in March and reportedly plans to have some 200 up and running by year's end.
