TomTom Mixes Nav and iPod Control

Concord, Mass. — TomTom is introducing two new portable navigation devices that double as iPod interfaces for the car radio.
The new TomTom GO 510, SD card slot, and 910, with 20GB hard drive, connect to an iPod and can control its display and text through the GO’s larger four-inch screen. The TomTomGO itself then connects to the car radio so the iPod is played through the radio.
The GO 510 and 910 navigation devices have pre-loaded maps and Bluetooth capability and the 910 offers voice announcements of upcoming street names.TomTom says the units offer a clearer display and now use the 16 by 9 aspect widescreen format.They also have their own built-in MP3 players and a desk mount cradle and can be used with Bluetooth speakers.
The units can also communicate with cellular phones via Bluetooth.When used with a GPRS cellphone, the TomTomGO units offer a “buddy finder” feature so that mom and dad, for example, can see where each is located, said the company.
“Its really a matter of bringing navigation into a lifestyle device,” said TomTom president Jocelyn Vigreux.
Shipping is expected April 15 at suggested prices of $699 for the GO 510 and $899 for the GO 910.
TomTom also announced that its devices can now show Dunkin Donuts and Baskin-Robbins locations as part of their points of interest (POI) locators.
