MILPITAS, CALIF. — SiPix launched the PocketColor 100 portable printer last week, designed in collaboration with IDEO, a design firm famous for designing the first Apple mouse.
The PocketColor 100 printer will retail for $99 and runs on four AA batteries or an included AC adapter. It can print directly from the SiPix SP-1300 digital camera or from any personal computer using a USB interface.
The pocket-sized printer uses an automatic sheet feeder and a dry color ink cartridge, eliminating the use of liquid inks. An automatic protective overcoat makes the printed photos resistant to fingerprints, ultraviolet rays and water stains.
The printer is being aimed at kids and teens who want to decorate or personalize their belongings with photos of friends and family, favorite bands, and more, said Michael Weizer, director of product marketing for SiPix.
The SiPix PocketColor 100 is compatible with Windows 98/98SE/ ME/2000/XP equipped with a USB port. The printer comes bundled with ArcSoft PhotoImpression photo editing software and SiPix Grab.
