Kameleon Bows Upgraded SKU

Staff -- TWICE, 8/23/2004

Universal Electronics is planning to offer a new Kameleon remote control, scheduled for retail availability this month.

Called an upgrade to the current One For All Kameleon 8 universal home theater remote, model URC-9960, the new Kameleon, model URC-9960B01, will offer several differences.

These include HDTV compatibility; the ability to deactivate the tilt switch or motion sensor; and the ability to select the time that the display stays on, ranging from 4 seconds to 20 seconds. Others include improved functionality for PVR combos in cable/satellite mode, three times the learning memory of the current unit, and updated brand and device code base. The new model has an advanced user management section, and batteries can handle nickel metal hydride with a capacity of 550mAh or more.

Among the product highlights are a suggested $99 retail; ergonomic, peanut-shaped design for enhanced user comfort; and control of up to eight home entertainment devices, including television, VCR, DVD, PVR (or TiVo), cable, satellite, home theater in a box, audio receiver/amplifier and CD. A learning mode allows users to teach the remote additional commands from the original remote, while macros allow programming a series of commands in one key.

The unit also offers favorite channel scan to program up to 10 favorite channels, and modem upgrade so new codes can be added from devices entering the market to the remote, by contacting customer service. It provides a home theater mode, locking across modes, to effectively integrate and control different devices in a single mode.
