Alienware Adopts New Intel Technologies

Miami — Alienware introduced two new high-end PCs in conjunction with Intel's release of its Viiv entertainment technology platform.
The company said it will start taking orders for its Area-51 3550 and Area-51 5400 desktops in late January with shipments expected to start late in the first quarter. Pricing will be under $2,000.
The configurable 3550 will be available with one of Intel's Pentium D chipsets, dual-core processors, Viiv, the ability to product 7.1-channel surround sound along with all the basic Media Center capabilities like digital video recording. The 3550 is being positioned as a jack of all trades for high-end computing including playing games, watching high-definition programming or video editing.
The Area-51 5400 is an all-in-one form factor model featuring the new Intel Centrino Duo dual-core mobile processor and Viiv technology. The new processor keeps the unit's generated noise level to a minimum, the company said, adding it has 802.11a/b/g wireless networking, an NVIDIA GeForce Go 6600 256MB graphics card, and an integrated camera and microphone for VoIP and video chat, and it can support an optional TV tuner.
