Future Of Retailing Is Discerned In New Prototype Store Designs
By Alan Wolf and Amy Gilroy -- TWICE, 1/8/2002
West Hartford, Conn. — The new year has brought with it a new look for Best Buy and Good Guys, which recently opened new prototype stores here and in Beverly Hills, respectively.
Best Buy's 30,000-square-foot Connecticut store is a scaled-down version of the company's new, airier Concept 5 format, which boasts wider aisles, improved adjacencies and sleeker signage. The company plans to employ the smaller footprint prototype in communities with populations of 250,000 or less.
Meanwhile, Good Guys' flagship store, which will serve as the template for future remodels and new locations, combines compelling lifestyle imagery, novel fixturing and interactive displays to encourage customers to linger and explore. "We look forward to evolving this innovative approach to provide a unique and engaging customer experience to further differentiate Good Guys in the marketplace," said executive VP/merchandising and advertising Cathy Stauffer.
