Whistler Intros Revamped Power Interverters, Radar Units

Staff -- TWICE, 12/4/2000

BENTONVILLE, ARK. -The Whistler Group is introducing a revamped line of power inverters, as well as two new radar detectors with combination functions such as voice recording.

The new power inverters convert the auto's 12-volt DC power to 110-volt AC power for use with laptops, TVs, VCRs or other devices.

The line includes the GO-AC PP150AC and GO-ACPP350AC, which are 150- and 350-watt inverters, respectively. They feature two grounded AC outlets on each unit, with built-in surge and circuitry protection. Suggested retail prices are $49.95 and $69.95, respectively.

In radar detectors, Whistler's new model 1780 is an all-band laser/radar detector that adds a memo function for recording up to nine messages for a total of 90 seconds. It features sleek styling, voice alerts, and high-visibility text display and detects X, KA, K, SWS and laser bands. The 1780 also has rear-facing laser sensors for 360-degree protection, and it includes VG-2 cloaking technology that alerts users to the presence of police surveillance.

The 1780 has a socket enhancer so users can operate a cellphone and radar detector simultaneously. It is shipping now at a suggested retail price of $219.95. It is joined by the 1785, which is similar to the 1780 but it has a built-in digital compass instead of a voice recorder. It offers digital compass headings in 5-degree increments at a suggested retail price of $229.95. Shipping is expected at the beginning of 2001.
