Samsung CES Party Highlights Partnerships, Brand Progress

By Steve Smith -- TWICE, 1/29/2007

Samsung Electronics celebrated the new year with its second annual Champions dinner at the Wynn Hotel during International CES, emphasizing its National Football League and retail partnerships and introducing several of its newly promoted executives.

The event, highlighted with an appearance by "The Tonight Show" host Jay Leno and former NFL quarterbacks, including Steve Young, gave Tim Baxter, the new sales and marketing executive VP of its consumer electronics division, a chance to address the attendees just days after joining the company from Sony Electronics.

Baxter highlighted the CE division's 40 percent sales growth during 2006 and claimed No. 1 brand share in LCD TV and flat panel markets during the year. Baxter also said Samsung's Four Seasons of Hope charity efforts have now generated $8 million in donations.

Samsung president D.J. Oh also addressed the crowd, thanking retailers for their support in 2006 and commenting that Samsung is positioned to continue its market leadership in 2007.

Also in attendance were four newly promoted executives in Samsung's sales and marketing groups. In marketing, Jonas Tanenbaum has been named flat-panel display marketing VP while John Revie has been named visual display marketing senior VP. In sales, Clyde Roberson has been named national accounts VP – Circuit City, and John Affriol has been named regional sales VP.
