Onkyo Outlines Additional Product Features

By Joseph Palenchar -- TWICE, 5/8/2003

Upper Saddle River, N.J. - Onkyo USA offered additional details about new Onkyo- and Integra-branded products shown at CES.

Onkyo-brand products, shipping in April through June, include three new 6.1-channel receivers with six amplifier channels. They start at a suggested $300 for the TX-SR501, which was priced at CES at a suggested $320. At $500, the company adds powered second-zone capability and conversion of composite video to S-Video. Previously, the starting price for both features was $800. A THX-Select receiver is priced at a suggested $800.

With the introductions, 6.1-channel processing/amplification and HD video switching appear throughout the TX series receivers.

Three new Onkyo-brand DVDs are the brand's first to play Windows Media Audio-encoded music CDs and JPEG/Kodak Picture CDs. Two are single-disc models, and a third is a six-disc model. All feature Dolby Digital/DTS 5.1-channel passthrough. Prices run from a suggested $150 to $300.

Four new Onkyo-brand receiver-based HTiBs include two 6.1-channel systems, one with six-disc DVD at a suggested $800 and the other without DVD at $500. Onkyo's first standalone 6.1-channel DVD-receiver will ship in July at an undisclosed price. It will also be offered in a package with speakers.

Two new Integra-branded receivers will ship in the spring and will feature an expanded set of custom-install features. Details were unavailable. They will follow the recent shipment of the brand's first separates, the $2,000-suggested DTC 9.4 preamp/processor and the $3,000 DTA9.4 seven-channel digital amplifier rated at 7x120 watts simultaneously into 8 ohms.
