Epson Gets ITC To Bar Third-Party Ink Cartridges
By Greg Scoblete -- TWICE, 4/9/2007
Tokyo — Epson said it was issued a favorable ruling by International Trade Commission (ITC) in its patent dispute with 24 companies.
Epson claimed that a number of companies — hailing from the United States, China, Korea and Germany — were infringing on its inkjet-related patents and selling cartridges based on those patents in the U.S.
ITC Judge Paul Luckern issued an initial determination finding that the companies in question did indeed infringe upon Epson's patents and recommended barring them from selling and importing them. Eighteen of the 24 companies have already settled, while Epson is pressing on against the remaining six.
A final determination will be made by the ITC on July 30.
