NXP Chip Selected For Sirius TV

By Greg Tarr -- TWICE, 5/22/2007

New York — Sirius Satellite Radio said it will use NXP Semiconductors’ Nexperia PNX9520 processor for its forthcoming Sirius Backseat TV mobile TV service.

Sirius Backseat TV will be launched later this year in select 2008 model Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge vehicles, the company said. The PNX9520 multimedia processor will be incorporated into a system being manufactured for Sirius by Delphi.

Sirius said it plans to offer an easy to operate family TV service featuring children’s TV channels including Nickelodeon, Disney Channel and Cartoon Network, for display primarily in vehicles.

“With its multimedia processor, NXP is enabling us to deliver a high-quality experience — in terms of both video and audio — to make our new Sirius Backseat TV the Best TV in the Backseat,” stated James E. Meyer, Sirius president of operations and sales.

The Nexperia PNX9520 processor is said to deliver a high picture quality through a combination of efficient video decoding, advanced post-processing and graphics acceleration features. All features are incorporated into a single chip.

The PNX9520 software will enable implementation of the latest audio and video codecs as they become available.
