Thermador Marks Built-In's 50th

By Alan Wolf -- TWICE, 4/18/2005

Thermador, a unit of BSH Home Appliances Corp., is marking a 50th anniversary of the built-in wall oven — a category it created — with a nationwide recipe contest and sweepstakes.

The contest, which spans 50 states, will culminate in the publication of 50 winning recipes in Thermador's Taste of America Oven Recipe Cookbook. All contestants will also be eligible to win a new 50th anniversary Ford Thunderbird.

“Thermador has a history of firsts that have shaped the luxury kitchen and made it an American icon brand,” said BSH's president/CEO Franz Bosshard. Our invention of the built-in oven transformed the American kitchen … and we have continued to create numerous advancements to our top-rated wall ovens.”

Thermador developed the first wall oven in 1955, which featured a recessed broiling unit for more useable space, a protective hood to deflect heat and vapors, and double-compartment doors insulated with fiberglass and ventilated for air circulation to prevent burns. The product was considered revolutionary for the added convenience and flexibility it afforded home builders and owners, and remains one of the most significant technological achievements in the history of kitchen appliances.

Thermador continues to refine the wall oven, having recently added an innovative control system, and by offering the only 30-inch triple configuration series in the marketplace.

Thermador also boasts the industry's largest-capacity 30-inch wall oven (at 4.9 cubic feet), and all units feature an advanced convection system that uses a powerful 2,750-watt third convection element.
