Clarion Drops Reps
By Amy Gilroy -- TWICE, 12/17/2008
Cypress, Calif. — Clarion is letting go of its independent manufacturer’s representatives and is switching many of its car stereo retailers over to regional distributors.
The company’s largest retailers will work directly with Clarion, effective immediately, and most of its retailers will work with regional distributors. Clarion, however, will continue to provide marketing materials, training and technical support to all retailers, who will also continue to have access to the Clarion extranet Web site, it said.
The move is expected to result in a cost savings for Clarion and provide smaller retailers with just-in-time deliveries, which will reduce their inventory costs. It was not known what distributor fees would be charged to retailers.
The announcement comes on the heels of other restructuring announcements in car stereo and related fields this week. These include the announcement that Bosch is looking for a partner for
or to sell the company, and Mitac (parent of portable GPS maker Mio) is planning to purchase Magellan, while
are exiting the U.S. portable GPS market.

Hummm-
Sales .... Shrinking for 10 years
Staff... 5X what is necessary
Product... Total disconnect with market reality
Reps..... Some of the best in the trade
Retailers.... Frustrated for 10 years with "bone head" management.
Solution...
So shoot the "messengers" (reps and dealers)... Sounds logical to me!!!

Their product is hideuos topped off by very poor management. Just a move to keep the fat cats jobs as long as they can. Too bad, it was once a very good line.

Exactly, who cares, I got a letter from that Ralf guy who only sold transhippers anyway, their line is horrible, I only supported it because of my rep. RIP Clarion.

So Clarion is going to take away all of the programs that make it good to be a Clarion dealer, and then want us to pay more for the products from a distributor. Yeah we will find another line to take their place. Glad we have been a Clarion dealer for over 15 years.
