Gemstar Reports Agreements With Samsung, Sharp

LOS ANGELES — Gemstar-TV Guide has inked licensing agreements with Sharp and Samsung to incorporate Gemstar's interactive programming guide into the manufacturer's products.

The multi-year agreements will place Gemstar's TV Guide On Screen into a variety of digital televisions and digital recording devices from Sharp and Samsung.

A Gemstar press release said Sharp will pay a license fee based on the number of units sold that include the programming guide technology. There is no minimum commitment.

Details of the agreement with Samsung were not available at press time.
