Toshiba Adds Three Qosmio Models

By TWICE Staff -- TWICE, 6/17/2008

Irvine, Calif. — Toshiba’s digital products division has introduced three new laptops to its Qosmio lineup, models G55, X305 and F55, which are all expected to be available later this summer. According to the company, the new models are designed for gamers and multimedia enthusiasts.

The G55 features the Toshiba Quad Core HD processor, a parallel media co-processor based on cell processor technology co-developed by Toshiba, Sony and IBM. Toshiba said the technology is best known for its use in the Sony PlayStation3. The technology is said to provide users with “more power than ever to control and create personal movie projects with unmatched speed and efficiency.” For instance, Toshiba said the processor can make transcoding (the process of converting digital video from a camcorder’s format into one that is compatible with video editing software) speeds up to 10 times faster. Also, combined with Toshiba’s DVD player software, the processor can help up-scale DVD video to high definition, said the company.

The G55’s other key attributes include its hard drive storage space of up to 500GB, and its 18.4-inch diagonal widescreen — a first for a Toshiba laptop. The screen features a TruBrite high-definition display with a 16:9 aspect ratio.

The Qosmio X305

The Qosmio X305 is a gaming machine that features a 17.1-inch diagonal widescreen TruBrite high-definition display. Select X305s feature NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GTX GPU, up to 1GB VRAM graphics memory, dual hard drives with up to 400GB collective storage space, as well as DDR3 RAM.

The Qosmio F55 is being positioned for gaming enthusiasts on the go. It features a 15.4-inch diagonal widescreen TruBrite high-definition display and comes with NVIDIA GeForce 9700 GTS graphics. The device is Toshiba’s first laptop with a built-in GPS receiver and Garmin mapping software, which allows users to determine their location and search for millions of points of interest without the need for an Internet connection.

According to Toshiba, all three new Qosmio models come standard with Regza Link HDMI technology, which is said to enable simultaneous instant device configuration and allow for multiple Regza Link-enabled devices to be controlled with a single remote.

On the cosmetic side, all three feature new chassis designs with the company’s trademarked Fusion finish. They also feature Feathertouch multimedia buttons, flush-mounted touch pads, high-speed eSATA ports and Harman Kardon high-fidelity bass reflex speakers with built-in subwoofers.

A company spokesperson told TWICE that pricing information and complete specifications on each model will be available in the third quarter.
