Universal Offers Mobile Music Phones

By Staff -- TWICE, 9/5/2005

Universal Music Group (UMG) will introduce a music-oriented mobile phone along with its own branded prepaid service later this year in conjunction with mobile virtual network operator Single Tough Interactive.

The handset, called MoveU, supports music, ringtones and wallpaper downloads in addition to voice and data services. It will sell through Wal-Mart and other retailers in the fourth quarter for a suggested $99.95.

By pressing #1-4-7 and “send” on a MoveU handset, users can access UMG content. For an as yet to be determined monthly fee, the MoveU service will offer users the option to subscribe to unlimited master and polyphonic ringtones.

Single Touch will also roll out phones for individual UMG performers preloaded with their songs and distributed directly through the artists' Web site.

Single Touch Interactive is leasing network space from Sprint PCS.
