EchoStar Reports On Upbeat Q2

EchoStar Communications today reported it posted a $46 million profit on sales of $1.17 billion for its second quarter, compared to $966 million in sales and a $5.8 million loss during the same period last year.

EchoStar's DISH Network said it added 295,000 new subscribers during the quarter, ended June 30, giving the company a subscriber base of 7.46 million. This is 23 percent more than the company had at this time in 2001, the company said.

The new subscribers resulted in an operating income increase of $146 million, up from $64 million in 2001.
