Ridata Dual-Layer DVD-R Disc Debuts

By Staff -- TWICE, 1/30/2006

Advanced Media (Ritkek USA) maker of Ridata brand of recordable CD and DVD media, is adding to its white inkjet printable media with the Ridata 4x dual-layer DVD-R, featuring the fast, new printable discs.

The disc provides users with the convenience of the largest storage capacity currently available on one DVD disc, vivid graphics and fast recording speeds, said the company. It is said to have unlimited customizable personal and business applications, allowing users to quickly read, write or store nearly twice the amount of data that they can with single-layer 4.7GB discs without having to turn or change discs.

The Ridata dual-layer 4x DVD-R inkjet printable disc has an 8.5GB capacity and features a white printable surface. Compatibility is with a wide range of DVD players and printing systems. The dual-layer disc has enough storage space for up to 4 hours of DVD-quality video, 16 hours of VHS-quality video and over 120 hours of MP3 audio.

Suggested retail announced at International CES, held here earlier in January, is $75 for a 25-disc pack and availability is the December-January period.

Advanced Media, based in Diamond Bar, Calif., also is introducing two solar-powered batteries to its Ridata product line. Model SP 3900 charges any CE device offering USB connectivity, such as MP3 players, PDAs, GPS and handheld games. Charging time typically is four hours in direct sunlight for this three-panel solar-powered charger with a 900mA power bank.

Model SP 1300 is able to charge up to two AAA or two AA batteries. Two AAA-size units fully charge in five hours of direct sunlight and two AAs in 10 hours.

The 3900 will be available in January and the 1300 in March. Suggested retails were not announced at CES.
