More iPod And iPhone Accessories Roll In

By Lisa Johnston -- TWICE, 5/19/2008

As usual, the CE industry witnessed numerous iPod and iPhone accessories introductions.

ShadesCases announced late last month it had introduced a version of its signature Shades cases for the iPhone. Previously, Shades had been available only for iPods.

Made with polyurethane and reportedly 100 percent recyclable, the iPhone Shades come with a clear screen protector and provide access to all device ports. They measure 0.4 mm thick, according to the company, and weigh in at 0.5 ounces. The cases come in 11 colors and carry a $16.95 suggested retail.

OtterBox announced it had partnered with the Avon Foundation to offer limited-edition pink cases. When an OtterBox Defender series Strength case for an iPhone or iPod Nano is purchased, OtterBox will donate 10 percent of the purchase price to the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade "to support access to care and finding a cure for breast cancer, with a focus on the medically underserved."

Griffin Technology introduced three products: two cases and a screen-care kit.

The FlexGrip silicone case is engineered for use with the iPod Nano and Touch to protect the devices from dirt and scratches. The case features two colors, with a smooth top and a textured "nubby" rear surface meant for easy gripping. A static-peel touchscreen protector and cleaning cloth are included.

The FlexScreen is similar to the FlexGrip, except it includes a scratch-resistant polycarbonate face shield as well. The shield snaps to the outside of the case.

The company's screen-care kit comes with five static-peel screen protectors, a lint-free cleaning cloth, and cleaning and care instructions. It's designed for use with the Touch.

All three of Griffin's products are currently available, and each retails for a suggested $14.99.

Finally, MStation introduced the Radura case for use with iPhones, iPod Touches, Classics and third-generation Nanos.

The Radura features a clear polycarbonate design meant to protect all scratchable surfaces on the device while enabling access to all connectors, click wheel and touchscreen.

The Radura for the Nano and Classic comes with three silicone inserts(black, pink, and green) that act as shock absorbers, said the company, and also glow in the dark.

The Radura is currently available for a $20 suggested retail.

MStation also recently announced its Mophie Juice Pack had received "Works with iPhone" certification. The company claims it is the first battery extender to receive this approval.

Products that are labeled "Works with iPhone" are certified by the developer to meet Apple performance standards, according to MStation.
